Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we’re grateful for, and this year, our hearts were especially full. Because of our incredible Pelsbarn community, we were able to do something truly meaningful: make sure dogs in need could enjoy a full belly on Thanksgiving too.
Instead of simply talking about gratitude, we put it into action. We personally visited Satchel’s Last Resort and delivered a special Thanksgiving food donation on behalf of the entire Pelsbarn family.
Who are Satchel’s Last Resort
Satchel’s Last Resort is a no-kill sanctuary dedicated to helping animals who often go overlooked. Especially pets with medical needs, behavioural challenges, or circumstances that make adoption a little more trickier than usual. They believe that all animals are created equal, and deserve the best chance in life as a very much loved furry family member.
When arriving at the sanctuary, it was immediately clear that Satchel’s is more than a rescue. It is a haven for animals who need that little bit of extra time, attention and a lot of extra love.
Our Experience During the Visit
Being able to personally donate and spend time with the team made this visit even more special. Their amazing team was welcoming, friendly, and deeply passionate about the animals in their care. What stood out the most was how tirelessly they work to help dogs with medical or behavioral challenges. Every dog is taken out multiple times a day, given one-on-one attention, and treated with a level of patience and kindness that can only come from people who truly love what they do.
As we walked through the sanctuary, we met so many sweet animals, each with their own story. Seeing the care, pride, and connection that each team member had with them was incredibly moving. Being there in person reminded us why giving back is deeply woven into Pelsbarn’s mission.

Bringing these essential items directly to the sanctuary, seeing the appreciation from the team, and knowing exactly which dogs and cats they would help, made the experience even more meaningful than shipping a box from afar.
Why It Matters
Rescues like Satchel’s Last Resort rely almost entirely on community support. Food donations keep bowls full, and treats help with training, comfort, and building confidence. Every contribution, no matter the size, plays a meaningful part in helping these animals heal and thrive.
In addition to food and treats, we also brought along Pelsbarn Calming Chews to offer extra support to anxious or stressed pups: a small gesture that can make a big difference during difficult times.
At Pelsbarn, giving back isn’t just an occasional act; it’s the core of why we do what we do. We adore our own fur babies, and we know not every animal has experienced that same warmth or sense of safety. Visiting Satchel’s only deepened our commitment to supporting the organizations that work tirelessly to give these dogs a second chance.

Our visit to Satchel’s Last Resort reminded us why Pelsbarn began in the first place: to celebrate the love we have for our furry friends and to extend that love to animals who may not yet have a family of their own. We are grateful for the opportunity to personally donate, grateful for the warm welcome we received, and grateful to our amazing customers who make this kind of support possible.
